There was a lunar eclipse this evening and my photography class assignment was "night photography". I know this wasn't quite what the instructor had in mind, but I just had to try it. So I packed the camera and tripod in the car and went to my usual observing spot. And froze -- the weather was sub-freezing and there was a 15 mph breeze. But I spent two hours taking pictures of the moon every fifteen minutes. Here's the result:

Lunar Eclipse Time-Lapse

Lunar Eclipse Time-Lapse

Details: all but the last frame were shot at f/16 and 1/125th second. The last frame was shot at f/16 for 1 second. ISO 200 Ektachrome slide film. 300mm zoom lens at extreme zoom. Assembled in PhotoShop (the spacing is not to scale -- the images would have been separated by around 7 times the diameter of the moon if this had been a true multiple exposure.)
